When I picked up the call, a recorded message informed me that I was being contacted because of my "existing card account". I was instructed to press 9 to speak to a customer service representative. I pressed 9 and when the "rep" answered, I informed him that I do not have any existing card accounts and that I was requesting that he remove my phone number from the database. He disconnected the call before I was finished speaking. I immediately dialed the number back and got a recording saying the number has been disconnected. I am fairly sure that it was only a voicemail, not an actual disconnect recording, for the sole purpose of not taking incoming calls after they have obtained their victim's personal and/or banking information. I have reported it to the FBI and also to the FTC and the National Do Not Call Registry.
Similar experience today. Left a partial undecipherable VM on my mobile. Called it back and got a recording saying number is disconnected. i definitely recall having had this same scenario before over the past year at some point for sure. Way too many e-scumbags in the world like the one that called me from this number..
At first I was ignoring all these phone calls, but now I think I should add these numbers on my blog. I know this will not stop them but now they will not know that someone is naming and shaming the caller.
